Follow the ochre path

A place painted in ochre by nature. Roussillon, France. Aug 24, 2006.

This is one of the places that always pop up in my head. Located in Provence in the south-eastern France, Roussillon is a village with rich ochre pigment deposits, which turns the clay in the area into a vibrant range of reds and yellows. Mining of ochres was huge in the past when there were high demands for the pigments from the textile industry. The color of the land here was so saturated, when I first saw it, I thought something was wrong with my eyes. « Read the rest of this entry »
